Ms. Michelle Newman

Dr. Michelle Newman serves as the Vice Provost of Academic Operations. She oversees academic operations, disability services, catalog management, faculty scheduling, registrar services, policy management, and the transfer credit teams.

Dr. Newman has been with APUS for more than 17 years and has developed her passion for academic advising, problem-solving, and serving our students, staff, and faculty in this time. She has led the growth of the academic advising team to more than 80 members (from 12) and had managed a team in defining the academic advising needs of online adult learners.

As the University Registrar, Dr. Newman helped expand the university’s conferral opportunities to six a year (from four). Additionally, she has sponsored a cross-institutional committee that reviewed policies and implemented a governance structure for systematic policy review to support greater transparency in university policies.

Dr. Newman is currently serving on the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Nominations and Elections Committee (for the 2024-2025 term). Her previous responsibilities include management positions in several private companies, and she worked with learning-disabled students as a special education middle school teacher.

Dr. Newman holds a Ph.D. in Management with Learning Management focus from Walden University. She also holds a M.Phil in Management from Walden University, an M.A. in Management from American Military University, and a B.A. in Sociology from George Mason University.
